NW Natural Creates Dick Reiten Leadership Fund at Oregon Community Foundation.
The Board of Directors of NW Natural Gas Co. , dba NW Natural, has announced the creation of a charitable fund at the Oregon Community Foundation to honor retiring Chief Executive Officer Richard G. Reiten.

Reiten, who continues to serve as Board Chairman, retired as CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president. of NW Natural, succeeded Reiten as CEO. Reiten also is serving as chairman of the American Gas Association in 2003.
NW Natural donated $125,000 to the Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) to create the NW Natural/Dick Reiten Leadership Fund, said NW Natural board member Melody Teppola. Interest earned on the fund will be donated annually to non-profit organizations selected by the Reiten family. The fund will be administered by the OCF.
"Dick's leadership has been essential to NW Natural's ongoing success, but his service as a leader goes beyond NW Natural," Teppola said. "Dick's deep commitment to community service has made Oregon a better place to live, and NW Natural could think of no better way to honor him than to turn his legacy of leadership into a permanent community asset."
Reiten joined NW Natural as President in 1996, and succeeded Robert Ridgley as Chief Executive Officer in 1997. In 2000, he was elected Chairman of the NW Natural board.
