NURSES AT BLAIR COUNTY'S VALLEY VIEW HOME RATIFY CONTRACT
PITTSBURGH, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Nurses Association (PNA) Labor Representative Jeffrey Lewis has announced that the registered nurses represented by the Association at Blair County's Valley View Home overwhelmingly ratified a new three-year contract on April 22.
The RNs were working under the old contract since Jan. 1, 1992. A tentative agreement was reached April 20 with the assistance of a state mediator.
Highlights of the current contract include new benefits for part-time registered nurses, health and safety conditions, and contract language to cover job postings and the pulling of registered nurses. The benefit package in the new contract includes improvements in the amount of life insurance, funeral leave coverage and an extra personal day in the last year of the contract. Also negotiated was a new sick leave buy-back program. Patricia Landis, president of PNA Local No. 806, said, "The contract also provides improvement in the wage scale and an additional step for the RNs after six years of service. The wage scale was increased by 4 percent each January of the contract."
The Pennsylvania Nurses Association is a statewide organization with a membership of more than 9,000 and has represented nurses in Pennsylvania since 1903. PNA is one of the oldest and largest constituents of the American Nurses' Association.
