NTT Electronics Releases Single-Chip Codec and Encoder LSIs Supporting Real Full-Spec HDTV for the Consumer Market.

Broadcast-Quality Video Made Possible in Consumer Applications

; Tomoyuki Toshima, President & CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. ), an industry leader in image compression Noun 1. image compression - the compression of graphics for storage or transmission
compression - encoding information while reducing the bandwidth or bits required
technology, has developed two new single-chip video compression LSIs supporting full HDTV, to meet rising needs for high-definition TV.

Unlike existing full-spec products that convert 1920x1080-pixel images to 1440x1080 pixels before encoding them, the newly released "Super ENC ENC Encoded (File Name Extension)
ENC Enclosure
ENC Mime-Encoded (virus scanners)
ENC Eastern North Carolina
ENC Eisenhower National Clearinghouse for Mathematics and Science Education
V" and "Libra ENC" support real full-spec HDTV (High Definition TV) A set of digital television (DTV) standards that offer the highest resolution and sharpest picture. Although some HDTV sets are available in standard (rather square) screen sizes, the overwhelming majority of sets are wide screen, which eliminates  by achieving direct coding and decoding of 1920x1080-pixel images. They are able to compress and restore high-resolution full-spec HDTV images without loss of quality.

These chips utilize technology that was originally developed for broadcast codec (1) (enCOder/DECoder) A hardware circuit that performs analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) and digital-to-analog (DAC) conversion. When analog signals are entered into a computer, cellphone or other device via a microphone or video source such as VHS tape or analog TV, , including high image quality algorithms, and low-delay, low-power algorithms that reduce the amount of calculation required while maintaining image quality. As a result, they bring the possibility of studio-quality high definition images to consumer applications.

 for Full-Spec HDTV

A HDTV codec LSI achieving both high image quality and low power consumption. The size and low-power design make it ideal for small video cameras and other portable products.
-- High Image Quality

The chip supports high-definition images of 1920x1080i and 720P.

-- Low Power Consumption

MPEG-2 video and audio encoding/decoding, controller CPU,
multiplexing/de-multiplexing are all integrated onto a single chip
(15x15mm, compact package). The single-chip implementation results
in low power consumption of just 730 mW in low-power mode.

(2) "Libra ENC" Single-Chip MPEG-2 Encoder LSI for Full-Spec HDTV

A low-delay encoder LSI for HDTV, developed for wireless connection of
home-use AV equipment, and ideal for wireless TV and game equipment.

-- High Image Quality

The product supports 1440x1080i, and real full-spec HDTV for
    1920x1080i.

-- Low Delay

In HDTV encoding, MPEG-2 TS (transport stream) output takes place
at low delay of 100msec or less, while preserving high image
    quality.

NEL expands our business into the consumer electronics market starting with the sale of these two new products by image technology developed in the broadcasting industry, and will promote a positive approach in consumer electronics market.
