NTT DoCoMo and AIS's Mobile Payment Service Joint Venture Starts Operations in Thailand.Tokyo, Japan, Aug 8, 2005 - (JCNN JCNN Japan Corporate News Network ) - NTT DoCoMo has announced that its mobile payment service joint venture, ADVANCED MPAY COMPANY (mPAY), started operations in Thailand on August 5. The joint venture was established by DoCoMo and Advanced Info Service Advanced Info Service PCL is Thailand's largest GSM mobile phone operator with 17.318 million customers as of June 2006. Founded in March 1990 and acquiring Shinawatra Paging (AIS), Thailand's largest mobile operator. DoCoMo invested $7.6 million to own a 30% stake in the joint venture. The rest is owned by AIS. Customers can use their mobile phones to settle shopping transactions, including online shopping via PCs and mobile phones, pay utility bills, and buy drinks from vending machines. Retailers can use AIS networks to send a dedicated phone number to each customer, who can call the number and make a settlement using either an interactive voice response system or WAP (1) (Wireless Access Point) See access point.
