DATA, Japan's top systems integrator, has selected Terabeam Corporation, a provider of broadband wireless See wireless broadband.  systems, as its exclusive supplier for implementing high-bandwidth wireless connectivity to its customers in Japan.

NTT DATA is part of the Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (日本電信電話株式会社   (NTT) Corporation family of companies that includes, among others, NTT DoCoMo (NTT Mobile Communications Network, Inc., Japan) Founded in 1991, NTT DoCoMo is a spinoff of Japan's NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation) which provides wireless services, including cellular, paging, satellite and maritime and in-flight telephone services.  and NTT Communications. NTT DATA has engineered much of Japan's public IT infrastructure through a series of large projects for both the public and private sectors. In addition, it has built a vast number of corporate network systems.

NTT DATA selected Terabeam to provide its free space optics See FSO.  (FSO (Free Space Optics) Transmitting optical signals through the air using infrared lasers. Also known as "wireless optics," FSO provides point-to-point and point-to-multipoint transmission at very high speeds without requiring a government license for use of the spectrum. ) and high frequency millimeter wave (MMW MMW Millimeter Wave

"We look forward to working with a world class company like NTT DATA to provide the quality, high-bandwidth services customers expect from NTT DATA," said Dan Hesse, Terabeam's chairman, president and chief executive officer.

The Terabeam Elliptica series provides carrier-grade, network-ready free space optics (FSO) connectivity at Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) and OC-3/STM-1 (155 Mbps) capacities by sending an invisible, eye-safe beam of laser light through the air, from rooftops, through windows, or from cell towers to another such location. The FSO system provides excellent reliability through its patented pointing and tracking technology and exceptionally high security due to its narrow beam divergence. Elliptica's Web-based integrated network management system provides continuous, centralized system monitoring, tracking and optimization.

The Terabeam Gigalink offers cost-effective, highly reliable short and medium range outdoor connections using the 60 Gigahertz (GHz) radio frequency at Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps), OC-3/STM-1 (155 Mbps), OC-12/STM-4 (622 Mbps) and gigabit Ethernet (1.25 Gbps) capacities. Terabeam Gigalink systems offer greater safety and security than microwave technologies.

Terabeam's systems do not require the purchase of spectrum licenses or expensive trenching.
