NTRS assumes leadership role in new golf alliance. (National Therapeutic Recreation Association).


What tool in the rehabilitation process brings people of all abilities together and can also earn skilled practitioners millions of dollars annually? Would you believe golf? In February, Florida representatives of a diverse group of organizations, who believe all of the statements above, came together to form the National Alliance for Accessible Golf (NAAG NAAG National Association of Attorneys General

) to make golf more accessible to people with disabilities and to promote its use in rehabilitation.

The diverse partners include industry members (United States Golf Association The United States Golf Association (USGA) is the United States' national association of golf courses, clubs and facilities and the governing body of golf for the U.S. and Mexico. Together with The R&A, the USGA produces and interprets the Rules of Golf. , Ladies Professional Golf Association, Professional Golf Association and the Golf Course Superintendent's Association of America), and industry organizations representing course designers and course owners, disability advocates, groups of golfers with disabilities and membership associations for rehabilitation professionals.

NAAG will develop a tool kit for the golf industry. The kit will provide information about making courses accessible, making policies fit the needs of golfers with disabilities and giving professional golf instructors access to resources about disabilities and therapeutic recreation.

Future products will include a tool kit for persons with disabilities, with information about accessible courses around the country, and technical assistance that links golf professionals, therapeutic recreation professionals, persons with disabilities, equipment manufacturers and other key constituents of the golf world together.
