The ATA was [2] originally founded in 1900 and was originally named the American Trapshooting Association.  to develop the first-of-its-kind scholastic shooting program to provide junior high and high school shooters a framework in which to develop their shooting skills.

"Young people who learn shooting skills in Scouts, 4-H, FFA FFA free fatty acids. , and other youth programs are often 'short-stopped' with no clear avenue to follow to progress in the sport," says Doug Painter, NSSF executive director.

The Scholastic Shooting Program will emphasize safe firearm handling and shooting skills and will provide start-up equipment, coaching, and a competitive structure at the local, state, and national level.
