a grant totaling nearly $2.5 million to support the development of an inventory of football facilities and programs, and to launch a three-year magnet center project to create five national youth football hubs.

The grant will also assist in developing a grassroots advocacy effort to support public parks and recreation investments that include football facilities.

NRPA will partner directly with USA Football to execute this three-year initiative, which will fund a staff position (for three years) in each of the magnet center agencies.

A key NRPA partner since 1998, the National Football League has been committed to providing local agency funding opportunities, training and education resources, and most recently has addressed health and wellness issues in communities and the relevance of parks and recreation and football in fighting the nation's obesity obesity, condition resulting from excessive storage of fat in the body. Obesity has been defined as a weight more than 20% above what is considered normal according to standard age, height, and weight tables, or by a complex formula known as the body mass index.  epidemic epidemic, outbreak of disease that affects a much greater number of people than is usual for the locality or that spreads to regions where it is ordinarily not present. .
