switching solutions, today announced that it is finalizing a full range of wire-speed 10/100 auto-sensing switching and repeater hub motherboards based on the company's third generation NuCleus ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  chipsets.

The ASIC chipset solution is specifically designed for OEM partnerships and NPI has already signed a multi-million dollar, multiple year OEM agreement with a large networking company in Asia. These board-level switches and hubs are designed to enable OEM customers to differentiate their products with NPI's high performance technologies and to shorten their development cycles to increase product time to market.

This OEM agreement comes on the heels of NPI's recent announcement of its strategic business repositioning. In a press release dated Oct. 1, 1997, NPI announced the formation of three new business units, the NuWave, NuSwitch and NuCleus Groups, aimed at expanding the company's product offerings and OEM customer base.

The NuCleus Group is entering a new market segment with a series of very low cost, wire-speed commodity switching motherboards designed to be resold to system and networking companies on an OEM basis. With the agreement announced today, NPI will supply its Asian OEM partner with a full range of 10/100 dual-speed Ethernet switches in 2, 4, 8 and 12 port configurations and shared 10/100 Ethernet repeater hubs in motherboard form which will be used to shorten the company's product time to market.

"We are very pleased with our new OEM relationship with our partner in Asia," said Pauline Lo Alker, NPI's President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. "Not only does it represent a solid validation of our new business strategy of penetrating the emerging commodity 10/100 Ethernet switching market with our Nucleus ASIC chipsets, the business relationship will enable many end user customers to have access to our products through our partner's strong sales channels worldwide."

Early shipments of these products will begin during the current quarter. -0-
