for the past 14 years, Allen Cameron is used to some visitors being shy while others claw their way up on his lap and immediately begin to lick his face.

Clawing, barking, squawking and meowing are all part of the usual holiday routine for the Canyon Country resident, who poses for photos with people's pets each December to raise money for the Pet Assistance Foundation.

``Animals are just as unique as people. Some are frightened and shy, while others are friendly and more affectionate,'' Cameron said of many animals photographed with him while he wears the famous red suit.

``One young lady even brought in her tarantula tarantula (tərăn`chələ), name applied chiefly to several species of the large, hairy spiders of the families Theraphosidae and Dipluridae of North and South America. Cameron - in his Santa role - will be available for photos with pets from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for two Saturdays in a row - this week at Pet Supply, 26831 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus, and next week at Pet Stop, 16522 Soledad Canyon Road, Canyon Country. The cost is $10 for a glossy photo 8 by 12 inches, and other print sizes also will be available. No appointment is necessary, and any combination of people and animals can be photographed at the same price.

``There are a lot of people who would really like to have an animal in their lives, but simply can't afford it,'' Cameron said. ``Pet Assistance Foundation provides help for those people.''

Cameron - himself the proud owner of four dogs - looks forward to donning his Santa suit and meeting other pet owners and their pets.

``I really enjoy seeing the relationship people have with their animals,'' he said. ``Doing something like this, you see how much people really love their animals and how much their animals love them.''

``I will keep doing this for as long as I can. I consider it an honor.''
