:NOVL NOVL Novell, Inc. (stock abbreviation, AMEX) ) today announced the creation of a centralized applications support model for Europe, the Middle East and Africa Europe, the Middle East and Africa, usually abbreviated to EMEA, is a regional designation used for government, marketing and business purposes. It is particularly common amongst North American based companies, who often divide their international operations into the  (EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) Refers to that region of the world. Under the centralized support model, users of Novell's applications software will experience higher-quality service, quicker response time, enhanced problem resolution capabilities, and receive access to the company's full range of world-class support offerings. The transition to the centralized support model is scheduled for completion during Novell's second fiscal quarter (February through April) of 1995.

"By combining the technical support operations from WordPerfect Corporation's country offices into a centralized applications support model, Novell now provides customers with access to a much broader base of experience and a wider range of support offerings," said Bob Clark For the 19th century baseball player, see Bob Clark (baseball)

"A broader base of native linguistic talent at each site will allow Novell to advance its commitment to local-language support. Through the transition period and after the switch to the centralized support centers is complete, our customers will continue to call a telephone number within their country and receive support in their language."

Prior to the merger with WordPerfect Corporation Founded in 1979 as Satellite Software International by Alan Ashton, Bruce Bastian and Don Owens. In 1980, W. E. Pete Peterson, Bastian's brother-in-law, joined the Utah-based company as office manager and later became executive vice president. , Novell's EMEA systems support organization operated for more than two years under a centralized model, with a systems support center located in Dusseldorf, Germany. The success of the centralized systems support model was a key factor in Novell's decision to centralize applications support.

"Novell's experience with supporting NetWare, UnixWare and other systems products from a centralized office has proven to be very successful throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa," said Siegfried Wehrmaker, manager of EMEA systems support for Novell. "Novell will now be able to provide this higher level of quality service to our applications customers throughout the same areas."

He competes in the NHRA’s POWERade Drag Racing series, driving a Chevrolet Cobalt in the highly competitive Pro Stock , an industry analyst at International Data Corporation (IDC), said, "The ability to provide consistent quality support on a worldwide basis is critical in today's software environment. Novell's move to a centralized support model in Europe, the Middle East and Africa will allow the company to provide better support on a worldwide basis in a more efficient manner than under a distributed model. By grouping the resources and expertise in the centralized model, Novell customers should expect quicker responses to high-level questions."

Ronnie Johansen, director of EMEA applications support for Novell, said, "As the centers become fully functional, our customers will notice the increase in service quality and additional service options. This is Novell's commitment to its customers throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa."

Under the centralized model, two applications support centers located at existing facilities in Weybridge (near London) in the United Kingdom and Capelle (near Rotterdam) in The Netherlands will be aggressively built up to provide support to users of Novell applications throughout Europe and the Middle East. These centers will provide EMEA customers with support for all Novell applications, including WordPerfect, PerfectOffice, and the GroupWare and Main Street families of products. A satellite office in Cape Town Cape Town or Capetown, city (1991 pop. 854,616), legislative capital of South Africa and capital of Western Cape, a port on the Atlantic Ocean. This site will now be strengthened through escalation support from the EMEA centralized support centers.

Novell's EMEA systems support center, based in Dusseldorf, Germany, will continue to operate and will remain focused on Novell systems support for EMEA customers. The Dusseldorf support center's main focus is to provide escalation support to Novell's large EMEA reseller and service partner channel, which has been successful in proliferating Novell's products and services.

Combined, the systems support center in Germany, the two applications support centers in the UK and The Netherlands, and the satellite office in South Africa will provide support in 17 languages. These languages include: Afrikaans, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

Continuing its commitment to local language support, Novell is offering to relocate all of the current WordPerfect support engineers to the new centralized applications support centers. Until the centralized applications support centers are fully functioning, WordPerfect's country office applications support centers throughout EMEA will continue to provide users of WordPerfect, PerfectOffice, and the GroupWare and Main Street families of products with technical support.
