A penalty here, a fumble there. Not all at once, but always at the wrong time.

But the tailback landed at the 2-yard line to terminate the drive.

It turned out to be a recurring theme. Notre Dame snuffed out virtually every offensive opportunity Beverly Hills had in the second half, holding the Normans to just 31 offensive yards.

 the Knights finally found the scoreboard late in the third quarter, taking advantage of a Beverly Hills turnover when Kevin Wyld jarred the ball from Normans quarterback Moacir Jones and Tom Ricondo pounced on it at the 22-yard line. Four plays later Piedra hit Boyd with a 4-yard scoring strike to even the game at 7-7.

Beverly Hills made the most of its one second-half chance, Omar Bennett ripping through the center of the field then juking to the sideline on a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown with 11:37 remaining to give the Normans a 14-7 lead.

Notre Dame twice drove to with two-dozen yards of tying the score with a touchdown, a Piedra fumble ending the first drive with 7:49 left. The Knights got to the 18-yard line with three minutes remaining, but a clipping penalty, a delay of game penalty and a pair of incompletions gave the ball back to Beverly Hills to run out the clock.

Piedra finished 14 of 26 for 180 yards and the one touchdown. Boyd caught eight passes for 88 yards and the lone Knights score.
