NOTES AND NUMBERS: LIKE BULIN WALL.

Byline: - Notes and capsules by Rich Hammond Rich Hammond
Los Angeles Daily News sports writer. Instrumental in bringing the Los Angeles Kings hockey organization closer to the fans. He is the atypical "what a guy" to Kings fans everywhere.

Rich Hammond on himself.

It's been a strange journey since the last All-Star Game An all-star game is an exhibition game played by the best players in their sports league. The players are often chosen by a popular vote of fans of the sport and the game often occurs at the halfway point of the regular season, although this is not the case for some all-star games  appearance for Tampa Bay Tampa Bay, inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, 25 mi (40 km) long and 7 to 12 mi (11.3–19 km) wide, W Fla., separated from the Gulf by numerous small islands; it receives the Hillsborough River. Two seasons ago, he was the ``Bulin Wall,'' one of the best goalies in the league, and stopped an impressive 14 of 15 shots in the All-Star Game.

This time last season, he toiled for the Long Beach Ice Dogs The Long Beach Ice Dogs were a professional ice hockey team in the ECHL. They had suspended operations at the end of the 2006-2007 season.

The Ice Dogs trace their origins to the San Diego Gulls, a team in the now-defunct International Hockey League that began play in 1990.

Several other leagues have used the name, or one similar, in the past:
, in a nasty, year-long contract dispute with the Phoenix Coyotes that eventually ended with a trade to Tampa Bay last March.

In his first full season with the Lightning, Khabibulin has showed that he is as good as ever. On a struggling Tampa Bay team, Khabibulin went into the break with a 17-21-5 record but a 2.12 goals-against average.

REMEMBER ME?

When Alexei Zhitnik left the Kings seven years ago, he was a young player full of potential and seemingly on the way to a breakthrough season.

Zhitnik remains as much of an enigma in Buffalo as he was in L.A. His play has frustrated Sabres fans but has been strong enough to land him spots on both the World team and the Russian Olympic team.

Zhitnik's defensive play has been underrated because of the tendency to look at offense, which hasn't been good recently for him.

He had one goal in 52 games in the first half of this season but remains on pace to top his career high in assists. Zhitnik has 28 assists this season, 12 short of his total with the Kings in 1993-94.

``Personally, I expect to score more goals,'' Zhitnik told a Buffalo reporter. ``If you get the points from assists, that's fine. But I know that people are expecting me to score more goals. Nobody has said that to me directly from the team. But I know it.

``I know that I score an average of between 10 to 15 goals a season. Scoring one so far this year is awful.''
