NOTES : SIMI VALLEY WINS AREA CHAMPIONSHIP; TEAM BEATS VISTA TWICE TO TAKE THE TITLE.

The Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  12-and-under softball team defeated Vista 2-1 to win the Area Championship in Canby, Ore.

Simi Valley finished the Aug. 7-10 tournament with an 11-1 record.

Football: The Conejo Recreation and Park District Sports Office is accepting applications for the 1997 Adult Fall Flag Football League. The district accepts mail-in registration for in-district teams through Sept. 5.

Out-of-district and late in-district teams may register during walk-in registration starting Sept. 8, at Crowley House/Sports Office in Thousand Oaks from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The cost for in-district teams is $344 and out-of-district teams is $413.

Softball: The Southern California Sharks' fast-pitch softball traveling team will hold tryouts for their 12-and-under team Sunday and Sept. 7.

The tryouts will be at Arroyo Vista Park, Moorpark from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Cross country:The second annual Justin Koppel Memorial Cross Country Races cross country races

races which feature jumps, water hazards and which test the horses' speed and stamina.

There will be three races - a competitive two-mile race, which starts at 8:30 a.m.; a competitive three-mile race at 9 a.m.; and a one-mile fun run for children ages 12 and under at 10 a.m.

The cost is $7 for the competitive races and $5 for the children's fun run. There is a $3 fee to run more than one race.
