participants shot the lights out on closing day at Sherwood Country Club.

The 10 two-man teams combined to shoot 107 under par in Sunday's round of scramble play. The scoring-friendly format has both partners hitting drives, then selecting the best shot and hitting second shots from there, and continuing that throughout the round.

The teams of Scott Hoch Scott Mabon Hoch (born November 24, 1955) is an American golfer, who represented his country in the Ryder Cup in 1997 and 2002.

Hoch was born in Raleigh, North Carolina.
and Chip Beck Charles Henry "Chip" Beck (born September 12, 1956) is an American golfer who was a three time All-American at the University of Georgia. He has four victories on the PGA Tour and twenty runner-up finishes.

Beck was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
and Brad Faxon/Peter Jacobsen took medalist honors Sunday at 13-under-par 59. Good shooting but not close to the record.

Tournament host Greg Norman Noun 1. Greg Norman - Australian golfer (born in 1955)

and Nick Price set that at 17-under 55 in 1993. That score is the record for any of the formats in the Shark Shootout, which also includes alternate-stroke and best-ball play.

Craig Stadler Craig Robert Stadler (born June 2, 1953) is an American professional golfer who has won numerous tournaments at both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour level.

Stadler was born in San Diego, California and attended La Jolla High School.
and Lanny Wadkins Jerry Lanston "Lanny" Wadkins, Jr. (born December 5, 1949) is an American golfer.

Wadkins was born in Richmond, Virginia. He attended Wake Forest University. He won the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1970 and turned professional in 1971.
challenged that in best-ball Saturday, combining for a 57 for the best round of this year's tournament.

Feathered friends: This year's Shark Shootout produced 16 eagles - three by the long-hitting team of John Daly John Daly is the name of:

  • John Daly (athlete), a British athlete who won an Olympic silver medal.
  • John Daly (golfer), a professional golfer on the PGA Tour.
 and David Duval.

Jim Colbert and Bruce Lietzke initially did the best job of bunching the big birds, recording their two eagles within four holes (Nos. 13 and 16) in best-ball play Saturday.

Hale Irwin and Lee Janzen matched that with eagles on Nos. 13 and 16 Sunday to pull temporarily into a share of the lead at 26-under.

Nine is on line: The Shark Shootout, which has been played at Sherwood Country Club throughout its eight-year tenure, will be back in Thousand Oaks next year.

Sherwood owner David Murdoch said Sunday that terms have been reached to continue the Greg Norman-hosted tournament through 1999 at the par-72, 7,025-yard course, which is located in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains The Santa Monica Mountains are a low transverse range in southern California in the United States. .

The rustic, oak tree-dotted layout near the shores of Lake Sherwood has been ranked as one of America's greatest courses by Golf Digest.

The Jack Nicklaus-designed Sherwood course also has earned high praise from those who have challenged it the hardest during Norman's annual team-play birdie-fest.

``I wish we had more like it,'' said Wadkins, the 1995 U.S. Ryder Cup team captain who combined with Stadler to shoot 13 birdies and an eagle on Saturday.

``Courses that have been around forever don't look like this,'' Wadkins said. ``It's a pretty amazing place.''

Worthy cause: The Shark Shootout, which split $1.1 million among its 20 participants Sunday, has produced more than $7 million for charity in eight years.
