NOTES : DOOLEY SHOWS HE'S NOT QUITE THROUGH.

Byline: Tom Timmermann Thomas Henry Timmermann (May 12, 1940 - ), was a Major League Baseball pitcher for six seasons with the Detroit Tigers (1969-1973) and Cleveland Indians (1973-1974). Born in Breese, Illinois, Timmerman was a tall (6'4") right-handed pitcher who attended Southern Illinois University.  Special to the Daily News

On his last trip to Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, , U.S. midfielder Thomas Dooley Thomas Dooley (born May 12, 1961, in Bechhofen, Germany) is a retired German-American soccer defender and defensive midfielder, a long-time member and former captain of the United States national team.

Dooley, born to a German mother and a U.S.
, showing the effects of a broken foot, looked slow and out of step in a Gold Cup match against Brazil and was subbed out of the game after just 28 minutes.

On Sunday, he came up big twice against Mexico. He made a strong run to the net in the 34th minute to draw the defense to him and set up Eric Wynalda Eric Wynalda (born June 9, 1969 in Fullerton, California) is a former American international center forward, and the joint all-time leading scorer for the U.S. National Team (along with Landon Donovan).  for the first goal for the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  and then headed home a goal four minutes into injury time to get the United States a hard-fought 2-2 tie with Mexico at the Rose Bowl.

``It seemed to take two or three minutes "Three Minutes" is the 46th episode of Lost. It is the twenty-second episode of the second season. The episode was directed by Stephen Williams, and written by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. It first aired on May 17, 2006 on ABC. ,'' Dooley said of his last-minute header, which bounced off the post and past Mexican goalkeeper Jorge Campos

. ``I was saying go, go in. I was happy we scored. If you lose against Mexico, it's bad.''

Dooley, meanwhile, is looking good. Though it looked as though the international career of the 35-year-old senior member of the U.S. team was at an end, he has showed some life in his aging legs. He played a strong season for his German club, Schalke 04, and when the U.S. team needed a second-half goal against Mexico, coach Steve Sampson juggled his lineup to get Dooley a chance to go forward more.

``I brought in (Mike) Sorber to hold the ball in the midfield and that gave Dooley the freedom to up and combine with (Claudio) Reyna. It worked. I'm proud of Thomas' effort.''

Coincidence? The night before the U.S.-Mexico match in last year's U.S. Cup, a late-night fire alarm roused the U.S. national team from their Washington hotel. On Saturday night, they got a similar wake-up call at their Pasadena hotel.

Promising: The first success story of the Major League Soccer season is Brian McBride, the Columbus Crew forward whose goal-scoring success in the fledgling league caught the attention of Sampson and won him a spot on the national team for the U.S. Cup.

McBride came on in the 64th minute after Eric Wynalda reaggravated the left shoulder he separated in an MLS See multilevel security.  match. McBride looked good up front, and though he had two scoring chances he couldn't take advantage of, he headed a corner kick by John Harkes to Marcelo Balboa to set up Dooley's game-tying header.

``For a player with little international experience to come into this environment is something,'' said Sampson. ``He played with composure and poise offensively. He had two clear chances: He had a header that maybe next time he puts away and a ball in the box that instead of crossing, next time he puts away. He's a national team player consideration for the future.''

``To be able to train with the national team for two weeks, I felt like part of the team,'' said McBride, who is tied for second in the MLS with eight goals.
