The Swarm (1-0 in league, 1-1 overall) held the Crusaders (0-1, 0-1) to under 50 yards of offense. Thaddeus Massey led the Swarm with 82 yards rushing on 14 carries, two of which went for touchdowns.

Lamell Sykes gained 81 yards rushing and scored a touchdown on just six carries.

Simi Valley also received a boost from punt returner Sean Riley. Riley had punt returns of 45 and 55 yards.

Summer hoops: Registration for the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District's summer basketball league ends Friday. Cost is $400 per team.

Leagues play Sunday through Wednesday evenings. Game times are 7 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Games begin the week of Sept. 21.

Cross country:The second annual Justin Koppel Memorial Cross Country Races cross country races

races which feature jumps, water hazards and which test the horses' speed and stamina.

There will be three races - a competitive two-mile which starts at 8:30 a.m., a competitive three-mile at 9 a.m. and a one-mile fun run for children ages 12-and-under at 10 a.m.

The cost is $7 for the competitive races and $5 for the children's fun run.

There is a $3 fee to run more than one race.

Sports camps: The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District is sponsoring summer sports camps for boys and girls of all ages.

The Highlander summers-end basketball camp will run through Friday for boys and girls entering grades 4-10. Shooting camp runs from 9-11 a.m., post-play/guards starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.

All camp registrations are on a first-come, first-serve basis and have limited enrollment.
