The Senior American Mets won the first round of the William S. Hart softball season by going 7-0 after defeating the Red Sox 16-5 last Thursday.

Jennifer Henderson struck out 11 in four innings for the Mets. Laurel Scribner, Natalie Gardner, Amanda MacQueen and Colleen Field had two hits apiece.

Marissa Clemente, Jennifer Cook and Ashley O'Hara had one hit each for the Red Sox.

High school: Hart High School's boys' cross country team and girls' basketball team have been honored by the Southern Section as academic award winners.

The cross country team had a team grade-point average of 3.79. The basketball team's GPA was 3.67.

Football: The High Desert Cowboys will sponsor a 3K and 5K walk/run clinic on Saturday April 19, May 3, May 18 and May 31. The clinic will be held at the Lancaster City Park. This event is a fund-raiser for the football and cheerleading teams. The clinic begins at 7:15 a.m., with the walk/run to begin at 8:30 a.m. The fee is $10 for adults, kids under 12 free.

The Cowboys will hold sign-ups from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 19, May 3, May 17 and May 31. The sign-ups will be held at the Lancaster City Park. Information call [phone].
