NOTES: SCALERCIO WILL TAKE OVER VALENCIA GIRLS' SOCCER TEAM.

Tony Scalercio, an assistant soccer coach at The Master's College and coach of three youth soccer teams, has been hired to coach the girls' soccer team at Valencia High School.

Scalercio, 32, has 21 years experience playing and coaching the sport, including two years as a player with the San Diego Soccers of the Major Indoor Soccer League in 1985 and 1986.

He is the founder of the Elite Soccer Club of Santa Clarita.

Softball stars come close: In its final tournament of the year, the William S. Hart Mini-Minor (8-and-under) girls' softball team captured second place in the Simi Valley All-Star tournament this past weekend.

In the finals, Hart lost to Simi A 7-6 in extra innings.

Simi came from behind to score two runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-5 and force the game into an international tiebreaker situation. Simi scored in the ninth inning to win the game.

In pool play, Hart defeated South Coast 10-0, Westlake/Agoura 7-0 and North Torrance 7-1 to reach the semifinals.

Hart defeated Simi B in the semi-finals 11-1.

Members of the team are Lani Bernardino, Lauren Contreraz, Alyssa Jucksch, Alicia Junker, Victoria Kamp, Bianna Kuhn, Allison Lewis, Margaret McQueen, Amy Moore, Chelsea Pappas, Jessica Shults and Marisa Yudin.

Hart is managed by Rick Lewis and coached by Brent Kemp, Doug Kuhn and Bob Shults. Hart finished the season with a 24-3 record.

Baseball: The Santa Clarita Valley Bulldogs, a baseball team for boys with birth dates between Aug. 1, 1986, and July 31, 1987, will hold an open tryout at 9 a.m. next Saturday at the Castaic Sports Complex on Diamond 2.

The team is seeking pitchers, although tryouts are open to all players.

The team is scheduled to compete in the Field of Dreams tournament in Cooperstown, N.Y. this month.

Summer camps: The Master's College is hosting a summer series of soccer, basketball and baseball camps.

The soccer camps are for girls and boys ages 5-15. Directed by The Master's coach Jim Rickard, they will be held Aug. 10-13.

The basketball camps, run by coach Bill Oates, are for boys and girls ages 7-16.

The next baseball camp, directed by coach Monte Brooks, will be held Monday through Thursday for boys ages 6-14.

Softball: The Canyon Country Athletic Association is forming a new ASA girls' fast-pitch softball team that will participate in the Burbank City League.

It will be made up of girls ages 13-16 from the Santa Clarita Valley.

Practices will start Aug. 27 and be held Thursdays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Sierra Vista.
