Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  High. The tryout starts at 10 a.m.

Sledge goes pro: Terrmel Sledge, who went on to Long Beach State and became the Big West Conference baseball Player of the Year after transferring from CSUN CSUN California State University Northridge  in 1997, signed with Seattle Friday. Sledge, who went to Granada Hills High, was the Mariners' eighth-round pick in the major-league draft.

Basketball camp: Signups are being taken for the CSUN-hosted Bobby Braswell Basketball Camp, which is Aug. 2-6 in the university Activity Center. The camp, which features instruction for boys between 7 and 18, costs $225. Information: Brad Enright, (818) 677-7071.

 Club traveling basketball team of 12- to 14-year-olds, won the Pasadena league with an 8-2 record, including a 55-37 victory over Pasadena in the final game. Point guards Amanda Patton and EricaDoyle and centers Whitney Downen and Sheriden Arredondo combined for 45 points.

Stars added: Former major-leaguers Mark Gubicza and Lenny Dykstra will appear at the CSUN Baseball Camp next month. Three sessions are offered for the camp: July 5-9, July 12-16 and July 19-23. The cost is $160 per session.
