NOTED MUSICIANS TO TEACH AT CANYONS.

VALENCIA -- The Community Extension Program at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  will offer a wide range of fee-based music classes this fall.

Harpist Stephanie Bennett, who has performed with artists such as Celine Dion, Aerosmith and Bette Midler Bette Midler (born December 1 1945) is an American singer, actress and comedienne, also known to her fans as The Divine Miss M. She is named after the actress Bette Davis although Davis pronounced her first name in two syllables, and Midler uses one. , will teach ``Introduction to Celtic Harp.''

Bennett has performed for heads of state around the world and has won numerous international harp competitions.

Bennett will teach this beginning class from 1:30to 3p.m. on six Sundays starting Oct.1.

Students are encouraged to bring their own harps to class or contact the Community Extension office for rental information.

Irvin Caesar will present ``Nat `King' Cole, Timeless,'' an evening course from 6:30to 9:30p.m. on Oct.20.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss Cole's music and its impact on the world, and listen to Caesar perform some of Cole's most memorable work.

 and Herbie Hancock, Caesar is recording some of Cole's greatest hits with Peter White.

Professional drummer Chris Armstrong will teach ``Community Drumming'' from 7:30 to 9p.m. on six Wednesdays, beginning Oct.11.

This introductory hand-drumming course will teach basic drum patterns, how to play with a group, the rudiments of improvisation and the drumming practices of other cultures.

The class is for all skill levels and requires that students bring their own drums.

Armstrong is a professional percussionist and composer specializing in percussion from Africa and India, with an extensive background in ethnomusicology ethnomusicology

Scholarly study of the world's musics from various perspectives. Although it had antecedents in the 18th and early 19th centuries, the field expanded with the development of recording technologies in the late 19th century.

Other music classes this fall include ``Beginning Blues Harmonica,'' ``You Can Sell Hit Songs,'' ``Beginning Ukulele'' and ``Piano Your Teachers Never Taught You.''
