NOT SO MUCH BITE IN NEW DRAMA 'MOONLIGHT'.

Byline: DAVID David, in the Bible
David, d. c.970 B.C., king of ancient Israel (c.1010–970 B.C.), successor of Saul. The Book of First Samuel introduces him as the youngest of eight sons who is anointed king by Samuel to replace Saul, who had been deemed a failure.

I think we're all agreed that a moratorium is long overdue on jokes involving the words "vampire" and "sucks," and yet CBS' "Moonlight" opens with the line, "Being a vampire sucks," a warning as to the degree of inventiveness that follows.

Alex O'Loughlin stars as Mick St. John, a vampire private detective in Los Angeles (which sounds like the setup to another joke, but, alas, no). Sophia Myles plays Beth, a reporter for Buzzwire, an online news tabloid. They meet at a crime scene where the victim appears to have been murdered by a vampire.

Mick is assigned the case by his pal Josef (Jason Dohring), a successful businessman and "one of the oldest vampires in L.A.," who is worried that the murder represents bad PR for vampires. Given his concern, this series would make Josef absolutely livid livid /liv·id/ (liv´id) discolored, as from a contusion or bruise; black and blue.
