NORWEST EQUITY PORTFOLIOS POST HIGH RETURNS
MINNEAPOLIS, March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Portfolios managed in the

growth equity approach by Norwest Investment Management for institutions and pension plans returned an average of 53 percent in 1991. This exceeded the returns of the Standard and Poor's 500 by more than 22 percent, ranking Norwest among the nation's top 10 percent of equity managers.
"Banks are often perceived as being too conservative as money managers, but Norwest's results speak for themselves," said John Caswell, chief investment officer of Norwest Investment Management, part of Norwest's Minneapolis Trust Group. "Our disciplined and consistent philosophy enables us to deliver superior results for investors by successfully identifying above-average, high-quality, growing companies."
Caswell said Norwest focuses on delivering superior results over the long term by successfully identifying high-quality growth companies whose shares are reasonably priced.
"We foresee slower economic growth and lower inflation in the 1990s, an environment in which high-quality growth companies should continue to do very well," Caswell said.
Another top-performing Norwest investment in 1991 was the Prime Value Cash Investment Fund, a proprietary money market mutual fund advised by Norwest, which ranked in the top 5 percent of money market funds nationally in the I.B.C./Donoghue Money Fund Report. Norwest's Stable Return Fund, a collective fund for qualified employee benefit plans, was the top performing Guaranteed Investment Contract (GIC) fund in the nation, according to a prominent GIC consultant's 1991 survey.
Norwest affiliates manage $20 billion of trust assets, including the $7 billion in assets managed by Norwest Investment Management.
Norwest Corporation (NYSE: NOB) is a $40.3 billion company providing banking, investments, insurance and other financial services through 1,653 locations in 49 states and internationally.
