NORTHWEST AIRLINES PUTS PORTLAND BUSINESS TRAVELERS IN FIRST CLASS ON A
COACH TICKET WITH NEW NORTHBEST 'UP-FRONT FARES'
PORTLAND, Ore., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Portland business travelers flying on Northwest Airlines can now fly first class on a coach ticket. They can enjoy all the luxuries of first class travel at the price of coach class with new NorthBest Up-Front fares.
The new, permanent domestic fares are equal in level to most other airlines' full coach class fares and give Portland business travelers all the extras of first class, including priority check-in and boarding privileges, complimentary beverages, extra legroom and elbowroom, plus a 50 percent mileage bonus in Northwest's WorldPerks free travel program.
"Business travelers are our most important customers," said Michael E. Levine, executive vice president-marketing. "We want them to fly with us when their trips require them to fly through a hub. No one likes making connections, but Northwest leads the way in three performance categories that are most important to a smooth business trip -- on-time performance, luggage handling and fewest customer complaints. This fare gives business travelers a reason to find out what we can do for them."
The Up-Front fares are available from Portland to most of the 105 domestic destinations Northwest serves. Passengers must connect through a Northwest hub to qualify for the fares. If first class is not available, WorldPerks members flying on Up-Front tickets will receive double WorldPerks credit miles. WorldPerks members earn a free domestic round-trip ticket after just 20,000 miles.
"Northwest is not as well known in some markets, and the Up-Front fares will be an effective way to get business people to try Northwest and fly us as their preferred airline," said Christopher Clouser, senior vice president-corporate communications and advertising.
Northwest will unveil the Up-Front fares in full-page newspaper advertisements tomorrow. The program also will be supported with local radio and television ads. Up-Front fares are available from 22 select domestic cities.
Northwest is the world's fourth-largest airline and with its Northwest Airlink regional airline partners serves more than 240 cities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Australia.
