NORTHRIDGE MAN ARRESTED IN FATAL HIT-AND-RUN CRASH.
NORTHRIDGE - Police arrested a Northridge man early Sunday morning after he abandoned a car in a hit-and-run collision that left another man dead, authorities said.
Juan Matias, 24, was driving westbound on Reseda Boulevard near Parthenia Street when he lost control of his gray 1989 Chevy Astrovan, struck a concrete divider and continued on a nearby sidewalk before colliding with a street lamp, police said.
Matias, who was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, fled, leaving an injured passenger inside the car, authorities said.
The passenger, a 32-year-old man whose name was not immediately released, was transported to Northridge Hospital Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
Matias was arrested within a mile of the collision and booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, Sgt. Ed Wheelies of the Los Angeles Police Department said.
