 NORTH LAKE TAHOE INVESTS $16 MILLION FOR WINTER SKIING;
 SPECIAL LIFT/LODGING PACKAGES OFFERED
 TAHOE CITY, Calif., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Nearly $16 million has been invested in North Lake Tahoe/Donner Summit ski resorts on renovations, upgrades, new lifts and snowmaking equipment for the official opening of the 1992-93 winter ski season Nov. 26(A), according to the Tahoe North Visitors & Convention Bureau.
 In addition, the Ski Tahoe North consortium of eight downhill and seven cross-country ski areas is offering special lift/lodging packages all winter long starting at $135/person for three nights lodging/three days skiing with a four-area interchangeable lift ticket.
 According to Tahoe North Visitors and Convention Bureau Executive Director Kay Williams, "The lift/lodging packages are some of the best ski-season values at Lake Tahoe. You also can choose an eight-area interchangeable lift ticket or a seven-area trail pass for cross-country skiing, both with or without lodging."
 At the largest of the North Shore ski areas, Squaw Valley USA (916-583-6985), three new chairlifts (one double- and two triple- chairlifts), a new children's ski/rental center and 800 new acres of skiable terrain have been added.
 Northstar-at-Tahoe (916-562-1010) has expanded snowmaking capacity to cover nearly 200 acres of skiable terrain, up from 120 acres of snowmaking last year, as well as adding three new ski runs to total 53 runs. Northstar also has added an electronic lift ticket this season; a "first" for any Lake Tahoe ski resort.
 Alpine Meadows Ski Area (916-583-4232) has added 40 new acres of snowmaking capacity for a total of 185 acres of snowmaking. A new Tahoe Handicapped Ski School building and the widening of Alpine Bowl are also new features for 1992-93.
 The Boreal Ski Area (916-426-3666) near Donner Summit has added a high-speed quad chairlift, plus a new novice ski run from the top of Boreal to the bottom. Boreal also offers night skiing from Thanksgiving through Easter and plans to be open by Halloween.
 Ski Homewood (916-525-2992) on Lake Tahoe's West Shore has upgraded snowmaking capabilities and grooming conditions for its upcoming ski season while the Mount Rose Ski Area (702-849-0704) near Reno has undergone extensive summer grooming. The Mount Rose Ski Lodge also has been given a substantial facelift.
 Sugar Bowl Ski Resort (916-426-3651) near Donner Summit has replaced a double chairlift with a quad chair and added some new snowmaking capabilities. Diamond Peak in Incline Village (702-832-1171) has replaced its older snowmaking system with a new one in order to cover 80 percent of its terrain.
 (A) Several North Shore ski areas will open before Nov. 26.
 Most Ski Tahoe North ski areas are holding lift ticket prices at last winter's levels and several are offering specials for midweek skiing, first-timer's lessons, children's ski programs, ski rental packages or family lift tickets.
