NORTH HOLLYWOOD PROJECT AREA COMMITTEE TO HOLD PRE-ELECTION MEETING
JAN. 14 TO DISCUSS VOTING RULES AND PROCEDURES
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The Project Area Committee (PAC) for the North Hollywood Redevelopment Project will hold an informational pre-election meeting Tuesday, Jan. 14, to discuss voting rules and procedures for the upcoming PAC elections scheduled in February.
The Elections Procedures Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall of St. David's Episcopal Church, 11605 Magnolia Blvd., located just east of Colfax Avenue. The election will be held on Feb. 11 at the same time and location.
The North Hollywood Project Area Committee (PAC) is a citizens group formed in 1977 to advise the CRA on goals and priorities for revitalization in the area and continues as the formal means through which the community participates in redevelopment activities.
The 740-acre North Hollywood Redevelopment Project was established in 1979 by the Los Angeles City Council and is located in the Fourth District represented by Councilman John Ferraro. The project area is generally bounded by Tujunga Avenue on the west; Hatteras Street on the north; Cahuenga Boulevard on the east; and Camarillo Street on the south.
Sixteen positions on the PAC will be available in five categories: residential/owner occupants (four seats), residential tenant (four seats), absentee owner (two seats), business owners or tenants (four seats) and community organization representative (two seats).
Candidates must be 18 years old and qualified to run for the position they're seeking on the PAC. They also must show proof of eligibility by presenting a driver's license, rent receipt, tax bill, business license or other documents which establish a candidate's identity and eligibility to seek office.
Individuals seeking office can pre-register at the CRA's North Hollywood site office at 5651 Vineland Ave. prior to the election. Candidates also can pre-register at the church on the evening of the election beginning at 6 p.m.
Candidates in the community organization category must have a letter from a qualified organization filed with the CRA by Jan. 31 to be eligible. The organization must have been in existence for at least one year, serve the project area and be non-political and non-profit.
Those persons elected to the PAC will serve two-year terms beginning in February and must attend monthly meetings and actively participate in all deliberations. Voters participating in the election must meet the same qualifications as candidates, except for the community organization category.
Candidates' application forms and resumes will be available at the CRA's North Hollywood site office and at the North Hollywood Public Library. Copies of the redevelopment plan and the PAC procedural rules also may be obtained from CRA offices. For more information, contact Carmen Kane of the North Hollywood site office at 818-753-1918.
