NORTH AMERICAN-BUILT TOYOTA SALES RISE IN SECOND 10 DAYS OF MARCH

 TORRANCE, Calif., March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), U.S.A. Inc., today reported a rise in North American-built vehicles, led by the all-new Corolla compact sedan and Toyota compact pickup trucks.
 Sales of Toyota's North American-built vehicles increased 15.2 percent to 13,129, for the 10 days and 17.4 percent, to 79,758 calendar year to date (CYTD). In the 10 days they accounted for 45.6 percent of total sales, up from 34.8 percent last year, and 42.0 percent CYTD, up from 33.2 percent.
 North American-built Corolla sales increased 34.3 percent to 5,048 for the 10 days and 14.5 percent, to 27,487 CYTD. U.S.-built pickup sales rose 229.4 percent, to 3,222 in the 10 days and 376.6 percent CYTD, to 18,940.
 Lexus sales declined 25.0 percent in the 10-day period to 2,397 and 18.3 percent CYTD to 16,752.
 Toyota's total U.S. vehicle sales declined 12.1 percent, to 28,765 and 7.2 percent CYTD, to 189,859.
 Total Corolla sales increased 5.0 percent, to 6,194 for the period and declined 2.5 percent CYTD, to 39,463.
 Total pickup sales, including the all-new T100 intermediate-size pickup, rose 9.4 percent to 5,956, in the 10 days and 23.0 percent, to 37,974 CYTD.
 Sales of 4Runner sport utility vehicles increased 2.4 percent, to 1,169 for the period and 3.0 CYTD, to 7,624. 4Runner remains the first and only sport utility vehicle with fewer than 100 defects per 100 vehicles and the top quality vehicle in its class in the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study.
