:NT.) has received awards estimated to be worth approximately US$250 million from Chunghwa Telecom Not to be confused with China Telecom.

These expansions are expected to increase Chunghwa Telecom's network capacity to 6.5 million subscribers, and will enable Taiwan's leading telecommunications provider to offer high-performance Wireless Internet services across the country.

"This will allow us to accommodate growth in both subscribers and Short Message traffic, as well as to improve coverage in 'hot spots,'" said Mr. Chin-Yi Yue, president, Long Distance and Mobile Business Group, Chunghwa Telecom.

"It will also enable us to accommodate burgeoning growth of prepaid subscribers," Mr. Yue said. "We will continue to benefit from Nortel Networks portfolio of GSM services GSM services are a standard collection of applications and features available to mobile phone subscribers all over the world. Chunghwa Telecom operates Taiwan's only nationwide, dual mode GSM network, combining the coverage of GSM 900 with the capacity of GSM 1800. Subscribers using dual-band handsets are able to place and receive calls from virtually anywhere in Taiwan.
