NORTECH SYSTEMS SELECTED FOR STATE-SPONSORED TRAINING PROGRAM
Senate Majority Leader Moe Announces Program at Nortech Plant
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Nortech Systems Incorporated (OTC Bulletin Board: NSYS) will participate in a joint project with Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, Minn., to provide training in international manufacturing standards to Nortech Systems employees. The program -- the first of its kind in Minnesota -- was announced today by Senate Majority Leader Roger Moe at a ceremony at Nortech Systems' plant in Bemidji.
The Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Board will provide a grant of $200,000 to Northwest Technical College toward the project. Nortech Systems will provide additional funding.
The program is intended to prepare Nortech Systems for certification under ISO 9000, an internationally accepted system of manufacturing standards. Most European companies, as well as many of Nortech Systems' U.S.-based multinational customers, are increasingly requiring their suppliers to become ISO-certified.
"We're very pleased to begin this joint project, which will help Nortech Systems keep competitive with the changing requirements of the global marketplace," said Quent Finkelson, president and CEO of Nortech Systems. "Obtaining ISO 9000 certification is a lengthy and expensive process, but we expect it to have have a profound, positive impact on our long-term growth and success. We expect to complete the certification process during the next two years.
"It is also exciting for us to undertake this advance training right in our own back yard in Bemidji, a community with which we have a long and special relationship," said Finkelson.
Under the program, Northwest Technical College will provide training for Nortech employees in upgrading current documentation systems to meet ISO 9000 certification standards. Nortech Systems will invest in a PC network that enables employee teams to share real-time production data. An automated quality system will enable Nortech Systems to document and track the production process details required to achieve ISO certification. The program is expected to serve as a model for expanding ISO registration implementation efforts in other Minnesota companies.
ISO 9000 was developed by the International Organization for Standardization in Geneva, Switzerland in 1987. The ISO 9000 is a series of five worldwide standards establishing requirements for quality management. Fifty-one countries already have adopted the ISO 9000 standards as their national certification guidelines. Many of Nortech Systems' key customers do business internationally.
