NORFOLK SOUTHERN GEORGIA VP JOEL HARRELL ASSUMES ADDITIONAL PUBLIC AFFAIRS RESPONSIBILITIES IN FLORIDA

 NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Joel E. Harrell, III, resident vice president-Public Affairs in Georgia for Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC), will assume similar public affairs responsibilities in Florida.
 This appointment, announced by James L. Granum, vice president- Public Affairs of Norfolk Southern, is effective immediately.
 Harrell will work with local and state government on legislative and regulatory issues affecting railroads, grade crossing safety, and matters of general concern to the rail industry in Florida.
 He will continue to serve as resident vice president in Georgia and will keep his office in Atlanta.
 Harrell joined Southern Railway in 1970 as an engineering trainee in Atlanta after graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a degree in civil engineering. He has served in several managerial capacities in Atlanta with both Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern and has been resident vice president for public affairs in Georgia since 1988.
 Harrell and his wife, the former Ginny Jiroch of Richmond, Kentucky, live with their three sons in Smyrna, Georgia.
