NORFOLK SOUTHERN ANNOUNCES OFFICER ASSIGNMENTS

 NORFOLK, Va., March 5 /PRNewswire/-- Norfolk Southern Corporation (NYSE: NSC) today announced the assignment of three officers to new responsibilities, effective April 1.
 Thomas L. Finkbiner, currently assistant vice president- International and Intermodal Marketing, will become senior assistant vice president-International and Intermodal Marketing. Finkbiner has held his current position since joining Norfolk Southern in 1987. Prior to that, he was vice president of Marketing and Administration for North American Van Lines, Inc., a subsidiary of Norfolk Southern. Finkbiner was graduated from Rutgers University with a BS in Economics.
 Brian J. Ahern, currently executive assistant to the chairman, will become assistant vice president-International and Intermodal Marketing. Ahern joined Norfolk and Western Railway, a Norfolk Southern predecessor, in 1972, and was assistant to the vice president-Sales prior to his current position. Ahern was graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College with a BA in Business, Cleveland Marshall Law School with a JD, and is completing an MBA at Duke University.
 Thomas J. Golian, currently special assistant to the executive vice president-Operations, will become executive assistant to the chairman. Golian joined the Wabash Railroad, a Norfolk Southern predecessor, in 1952 and was assistant to the president of Norfolk Southern prior to his current position. He was graduated from Millikin University with a BA in Business.
