NORDSTROM TO LICENSE CALLAWAY GOLF NAME FOR NEW APPAREL LINE

 SEATTLE, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Nordstrom, a leading specialty fashion retailer based in Seattle, has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY), the Carlsbad, Calif., manufacturer of Big Bertha(R) golf clubs, to develop men's and women's golf-oriented sportswear and footwear to be sold at Nordstrom stores throughout the United States beginning in Spring 1994.
 Under the exclusive licensing agreement, Nordstrom will become the sole licensee of the Callaway Golf name and of certain other names owned by Callaway such as the well-known "Big Bertha" driver. Nordstrom will design, produce and sell the apparel using joint labels.
 The concept for this apparel will combine the highest quality fabrics, designs and manufacturing available. "Our goal is to bring innovative designs to the golf course in which both of our companies can be very proud," says Jack Irving, executive vice president, Men's Division. "Also, with Nordstrom serving as the manufacturer and retailer, we know that we can deliver the quality our customers expect at prices less than are currently on the market for similar items."
 According to Callaway Golf Company Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ely Callaway, "The Nordstrom name is certainly one of the most distinguished names in the world of retailing. We are proud that our name will soon be added to the many great labels now contributing to the success of Nordstrom.  Callaway Golf Company manufactures and sells golf clubs to a select group of golf professional (PGA) "pro-shops" and off-course specialty golf shops throughout the United States and in 45 golf club markets abroad. For the past four years it has been the fastest- growing golf club manufacturing company in the United States and is now among the largest at $132 million in reported sales for 1992.
 Nordstrom is a leading specialty fashion retailer with 72 stores in 11 states and will, by Spring 1994, be selling merchandise in all 50 states through a series of direct mail catalogues. In 1992, the company reported sales of $3.4 billion.
