THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - The addition of a Nordstrom store leads a list of redevelopment plans for The Oaks, the mall's owner confirmed Monday.

With plans for an opening in fall 2006, this would be the upscale retailer's first full-line department store in Ventura County. The store will occupy a building of 124,000 to 144,000 square feet near the current site of the Robinsons-May Men's & Home store, which will be consolidated into a 250,000-square-foot site expanded from its main location. ``We've only owned it since last June, but we'd thought of it before that,'' said Randy Brant brant or brant goose, common name for a species of wild sea goose. The American brant, Branta bernicla, breeds in the Arctic and winters along the Atlantic coast. , senior vice president for The Macerich Co., the mall's owner. ``We know all the malls in the market, so well before it became available, we thought it was one that should be expanded to include more fashion tenants.''

In addition to relocating Robinsons-May, which should break ground sometime next year, Macerich plans on turning the space into 80,000 square feet of specialty retail and adding a 40,000-square-foot ``mini-anchor.'' Macerich expects Robinsons-May to move into its new space by mid-2005.

Nordstrom also plans on remodeling remodeling /re·mod·el·ing/ (re-mod´el-ing) reorganization or renovation of an old structure.
