NORDICTRACK ESTABLISHES NEW SPORTS RESEARCH LABORATORY IN MOSCOW TO DEVELOP UNIQUE NEW LINE OF FITNESS PRODUCTS

CHASKA, Minn., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- NordicTrack announced today a joint venture, Developed Technology Resources, utilizing the "Profsport" Training Institute, a Russian Research Center in Moscow, for analysis and development of methods and equipment used in training Olympic athletes. The relationship with "Profsport" establishes a new research laboratory which will allow NordicTrack to apply the latest concepts in Russian sports technology to the development of new products, according to Jim Bostic, NordicTrack president and CEO.
"The NordicTrack-funded research laboratory will be headed by Igor Kravzev, a nationally known Russian Olympic coach, whose unique training methods have been used with many Olympic gold medalists including the Russian women's basketball team in 1992. "We are extremely excited about this new collaboration between NordicTrack, Developed Technology Resources, 'Profsport' and Mr. Kravzev," explained Bostic. "Igor's dynamic locomotor system approaches to training Russian Olympic athletes hold the promise of significant innovation in new sports and fitness equipment for our U.S. and European markets," Bostic added. The center will also serve as a channel for continuing long-range research and development of new exercise products and training methods.
Kravzev has been recognized in Russia and the C.I.S. states as one of the pioneers of sports science. His training methods utilize a kinetic, total body approach to collective strength training and endurance of locomotor muscles, ligaments and joints. These methods have, for years, helped give Russian athletes a performance edge.
"We plan to integrate this new training technology into unique, patented products that will continue to keep NordicTrack on the leading edge of fitness products development," said Bostic. "Consumers can expect to begin seeing these products in 1994."
 NordicTrack is a CML company.
