NORBEST POSTS CONSUMER NOTICE IN WESTERN U.S. SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Norbest Inc. Monday issued
a consumer notice as a precautionary measure due to isolated and random reports of off-odors on some FRESH turkeys shipped to Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. Only FRESH, NOT FROZEN, turkeys are involved.
While there is no apparent health hazard involved, and no illness has been reported, Norbest recommends consumers with FRESH turkeys having one of the suspect lot numbers open the bag and check their turkeys for sharp, foul odors. Any suspect product should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund or replacement. Such odors can occur if turkeys are not kept properly refrigerated. If no off- odor is noticed, the product is wholesome. Only portions of certain production lots are suspect. The suspect turkeys are labeled as NORBEST FRESH TENDER-TIMED YOUNG TURKEY or NORBEST FAMILY TRADITION FRESH YOUNG TURKEY. Only fresh whole turkeys, not frozen, are involved, and no other parts of the country have received suspect product.
