 NONFICTION SESSIONS FEATURED AT
 LIGONIER VALLEY WRITERS CONFERENCE
LIGONIER, Pa., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Nonfiction writers can participate in a full weekend developing their writing skills during the Sixth Annual Ligonier Valley Writers Conference, July 10 through 12 in downtown Ligonier.
Opportunities begin Friday, July 10, with a two-and-one-half hour "Foundations" session designed to help nonfiction writers establish a solid foundation in the basic elements of the genre. Those interested in nonfiction will have their choice of attending sessions on "Turning Journals into Stories," led by Lewis Nordan, or "Foundations of Prose," led by Kristin Kovacic.
Saturday, July 11 will feature two half-day workshops in nonfiction, led by Kristin Kovacic and Patsy Sims.
Lewis "Buddy" Nordan, professor of creative writing at the University of Pittsburgh, has published his works in Harper's, Redbook, Wig Wag, Story, The Southern Review, and Playgirl. Winner of two P.E.N. fiction awards, Nordan is the author of three novels: "Arrow-Catcher Fair," "The All-Girl Football Team," and his latest, "Music of the Swamp," which Publisher's Weekly called "...engaging, wise, (and) delightfully wry."
Kristin Kovacic is a publishing consultant for Carnegie Museum and the Latin American Literary Review Press. She also writes feature stories, articles, and book reviews for many area publications, including The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and In Pittsburgh. Her short stories and poetry appear in many magazines and literary publications. She spent four years with the University of Pittsburgh Press and has taught college fiction.
As a freelance writer, Patsy Sims has published four books, as well as articles and book reviews for many publications, including The Los Angeles Times and The Chicago Tribune. She has worked as an investigative reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer and The San Francisco Chronicle, among others. For the past three years, Sims has been assistant professor in the University of Pittsburgh's creative writing program.
The conference will conclude on Sunday with a discussion of trends in various genres. Trends in nonfiction will be addressed by Sims.
In addition to nonfiction, the three-day Ligonier Valley Writers Conference also will feature a Friday Foundations seminar in writing poetry; Saturday workshops in writing poetry, fiction, plays, and childrens' stories; and Sunday sessions on "Trends in Fiction" and "Trends in Poetry."
Numerous other events -- including a keynote speech by noted historian David McCullough, a garden luncheon, and evening faculty readings -- complete the three-day event.
