NON-CALL IS COSTLY FOR AGOURA IN LOSS WESTLAKE 1, AGOURA 0.

Byline: Erik Boal Special to the Daily News

AGOURA - In the span of a minute Monday night, the chances of the Agoura High girls' soccer team winning the Marmonte League title, and possibly of qualifying for the Southern Section Div. II playoffs, took a turn for the worse.

The host Chargers - the Daily News' top-ranked team - thought they should have been awarded a penalty kick after Alex Cosentino was apparently fouled in Westlake's box in the 69th minute.

The linesman saw it - extending his flag upon contact - but was overruled by the referee. Not only did Agoura not get the penalty shot, but Westlake used the ensuing goal kick to mount a counterattack Attacking an attacker. Even though a criminal hacker or other agent is attempting to penetrate a security perimeter or damage systems, the counterattack must not violate applicable laws., leading to a Casey Jolna goal from 25 yards and a 1-0 victory.

``Finally, we had a break go our way for once,'' said Westlake coach Frank Marino, whose team - ranked fourth in the region - rebounded from a 2-1 loss Friday to Newbury Park. ``We needed something to go right for us (after Friday). We're still not playing the way we need to play on grass, but we're going to take it. I felt we had scored earlier on, so I felt justified when we got that goal.''

Westlake (11-3-4, 7-3-3) saw another goal disallowed in the 48th minute when a linesman ruled Kate Edwards offside.

Agoura (9-3-6, 5-2-5) had its best chance to even the score in the 75th minute on an indirect kick from 10 yards. Kelley Ross' shot was deflected by a Westlake defender.

``It looks like, barring some miracle, we're not in the running for the league championship,'' said Agoura coach Michael Skene, whose team fell to fourth place, three points behind first-place Thousand Oaks, which visits Agoura on Friday. ``Now we have to focus on a new goal, and the only goal in front of us is to make the playoffs.''
