NOKIA EXPANDS GSM NETWORK IN BEIJING, CHINA.


HELSINKI, Finland--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 26, 1997--Beijing Telecommunications Administration and Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Ltd. have signed an agreement for the expansion of Beijing TA's GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) A digital cellular phone technology based on TDMA that is the predominant system in Europe, but also used worldwide. Developed in the 1980s, GSM was first deployed in seven European countries in 1992.  network. The deliveries will begin in February and the value of the agreement is close to USD USD

It is the largest capacity of a single mobile switching center in China.

Beijing TA's network, supplied by Nokia, is the first system to support international roaming among GSM networks in China.

Nokia announced the first phase order of the Beijing GSM network in May 1994, and has previously signed two expansion agreements with Beijing TA, the first one in February, 1995 and the second in May, 1996.
