NOHO PROJECTS WILL BE MIXED-USE.

Tourism and retailing are important, and the city has motion-picture, biotechnology, and software industries.  developer has spent $9.1 million on land in North Hollywood for two developments that will meld apartments with commercial space, a real estate company said Thursday.

 Construction expects to have the mixed-use projects finished sometime next year, said Grubb & Ellic Co.

The company plans to build 299 apartments, with the commercial space on the ground floor of each building.

JSM recently closed escrow on the last of three parcels with a combined purchase price of more than $3.3 million.

The company will build the Imperia Imperia (ēmpĕ`rēä), city (1991 pop. 40,708), capital of Imperia prov., Liguria, NW Italy, on the Ligurian Sea. Located on the Italian Riviera, it is a port and winter resort. The cathedral (1780–1832) dominates the modern city.  Apartments on a 33,000-square-foot site at the southwest corner of McCormick Street and Blakeslee Avenue.

This project will feature 103 apartment units and 3,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.

Several months ago the company bought a 59,677-square-foot parcel located at 11049 Magnolia Blvd. for $5.8 million.

That will be the site of The Milano Apartments, which will include 196 units and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space.

The company did not return calls seeking comment.

He has served since 2001, taking over the position upon the death of John Ferraro. , whose district the projects are in, said it is good news for the North Hollywood area.

``What is happening to North Hollywood is people have taken a great interest in it and it's a great community. People are coming home to North Hollywood,'' he said.
