PANORAMA CITY - Union activists and neighborhood advocates rallied Thursday at Wal-Mart to protest what they call unfair labor practices Conduct prohibited by federal law regulating relations between employers, employees, and labor organizations.

Before 1935 U.S. labor unions received little protection from the law.

Backed by the grocers' union, United Food and Commercial Workers The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union is a labor union representing approximately 1.4 million workers in the United States and Canada in many industries, including agriculture, health care, meatpacking, poultry and food processing, manufacturing, textile and , Local 770, organizers sought to stir up anti-Wal-Mart sentiment as the retail giant moves to open 40 of its hybrid SuperCenters throughout California. Fearful that competition from the stores will endanger existing markets, and thus threaten union wages, UFCW UFCW United Food and Commercial Workers  planned a nationwide campaign that brought similar demonstrations 100 other Wal-Marts.
