NO REST FOR SANTA'S STAND-INS POSTAL CARRIERS TAKE NO BREAK FOR THE HOLIDAY.

SANTA CLARITA Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Cummings, 44, has been delivering packages for the post office for five years and doesn't remember as many packages last year or working 60- hour weeks.

``This is the time of year, and that's just the way it is,'' she said.

Many were surprised to see Cummings delivering the packages, with some offering their sympathies for working on the holiday's eve and others simply turning their head in disbelief Disbelief

Joe Dombrowski signed for a small package for his daughter Kaitlyn, but the family is still waiting for others to arrive from all over the country.

But it was one less day for Riley to think about what's inside the musical package, and his father won't be any help in figuring out the surprise.
