NO RELIEF IN SIGHT FOR DODGERS BRAZOBAN GIVES UP 3-RUN HR IN 9TH, OFFENSE SPUTTERS IN LOSS SAN FRAN. 4, DODGERS 1.

Byline: Jill Painter Staff Writer

For the second consecutive game, there was a game-winning hit in the ninth inning of the Dodgers-Giants series, only this time there was nothing controversial about it.

With two strikes and two outs, Michael Tucker hit a three-run homer off Yhency Brazoban to give San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  a 4-1 win over the Dodgers in front of 47,719 at Dodger Stadium     [ .

Instead, it was Tucker pumping his fist this time, as the Giants clinched their third win in the four-game series.

``You're never excited to lose, especially coming off such a dramatic win,'' Dodgers outfielder Jason Repko Jason Edward Repko (born December 27, 1980 in East Chicago, Indiana) is an outfielder for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Primarily a utility outfielder, his career had been slowed by numerous injuries.  said. ``We were hoping to build off that. (Jeff) Weaver pitched such a great game. It would've been nice.''

It also would've been nice if the Dodgers could have given Weaver a little more run support. In his eighth consecutive quality start, Weaver allowed just one run in seven innings, striking out five and walking three. Weaver needed just six pitches to retire the side in the third inning and threw just 91 pitches through seven innings before being relieved with the game tied at 1.

With Weaver's spot in the lineup due up second in the eighth inning and the Dodgers needing a run, manager Jim Tracy

called on Antonio Perez to pinch hit for Weaver. The move backfired, as Perez flew out to center field.

``It's the NL, that's what comes with the territory,'' Weaver said. ``My spot comes up and you want to score some runs. That's just part of the game.''

The Dodgers had their chances, but managed only a single run against Giants starter Brad Hennessey. With runners on first and third and two outs in the second, Repko grounded into a fielder's choice. Jeff Kent hit a leadoff double in the third before Hennessey retired Ricky Ledee, Jason Phillips and Hee-Seop Choi in succession. Oscar Robles doubled in a run in the fifth with two outs, but All-Star shortstop Cesar Izturis couldn't extend the rally, hitting an infield popup to end the inning.

The Dodgers rallied again with two outs in the seventh, Robles Robles is a common surname in the Spanish language meaning oaks, and may refer to:

drawing a walk and Izturis doubling to left-center field. Giants manager Felipe Alou decided to bring in Scott Munter to face Kent. Kent proceeded to hit a slow grounder to shortstop Omar Vizquel, who charged it and threw to first just in time to get a headfirst-sliding Kent.

Vizquel can relate to the Dodgers' recent struggles. The Giants, who are still without Barry Bonds, have struggled without their MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  left fielder. Bonds did manage to make an appearance in the Giants clubhouse before the game Sunday.

``It seems like we were playing a team similar to our team a month ago - a lot of injuries,'' Vizquel said. ``They're making a lot of different changes with different guys. We just got a good break. Three out of four is pretty good.''

Ledee played in right field and made his first start since coming off the disabled list July 8. He was 2 for 3 and had the best offensive day for the Dodgers, who managed just seven hits.

Weaver's only mistake on the day came in the fourth inning, in which Ray Durham hit a solo home run. Called upon to hold a 1-1 game, Brazoban failed as Tucker hit the Dodgers reliever's 2-2 fastball into the right-field seats. The loss shed further light on the loss of former Cy Young winner Eric Gagne, who's out for the rest of the year with an elbow injury.

The loss also left Weaver with his fifth no-decision this season.
