NO PROBLEM FINDING A SEAT, EVEN AT FAR BELOW COST.

Byline: Billy Witz

The Wisconsin Badgers The Wisconsin Badgers are a variety of collegiate athletic teams from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This NCAA Division I athletic program has teams in football, basketball, ice hockey, volleyball, soccer, cross country, tennis, swimming, wrestling, track and field, golf,  weren't the only winners at the 85th Rose Bowl.

An hour prior to kickoff, ticket sellers were willing to take well under half the $110 face value for tickets.

The game drew 93,872 - the smallest crowd since 1944 - but Rose Bowl officials expected less since the stadium's capacity was reduced this year as seats replaced benches in parts of the stadium.

Several factors contributed to the lukewarm interest in the game:

UCLA's falling out of the Fiesta Bowl The Fiesta Bowl, now sponsored by Tostitos tortilla chips (a Frito-Lay product), is a United States college football game played annually since 1971. Originally, the game was hosted in Tempe, Arizona at Sun Devil Stadium where it remained until 2006.  and into the Rose Bowl by virtue of its loss at Miami;

Wisconsin's weak schedule;

and most importantly, this year's $35 increase in ticket prices.

It also marked for a sharp contrast in the '94 Rose Bowl between the same two teams. Tickets sometimes sold for as much as $500.

It wasn't only UCLA fans who were stuck with tickets. Some Wisconsin fans who had been burned by arriving in Los Angeles without tickets five years made the mistake of arriving this year with too many.

``I'll either take $20 for them or take them home as souvenirs and write `UCLA spirit' on them,'' said Steve Householder of Madison, Wis., who had been trying to unload a pair of end zone seats for more than two hours.

``If Arizona was here, there'd be 30,000 people. With UCLA, you're lucky to get the bus to show up.''

``If I could find three kids to give 'em to I would,'' said Tim Townsend of Milwaukee. ``Too bad they don't have a program with the YMCA YMCA
