His 636 yards and 11 touchdowns are a big part of the Indians' 4-1 start and 2-0 Pacific League record, Burroughs' best league mark in more than a decade. Wiggan and his teammates will try to remain unbeaten in league at 7 p.m. today as they play at Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. The Indians, ranked No. 1 in the Central Division, used to play in the always tough Foothill League -- where Kyle raked rake 1 n. 1. Wiggan hoped to show off his skills in the Foothill League, but he knew his role as a junior was to back up Kyle. But that didn't keep Wiggan from finding ways to get on the field and relieve his frustrations. ``I looked at him (Kyle) like a big threat with me coming up,'' Wiggan said. ``I asked myself, `How am I going to get any playing time with him sitting there in front of me?''' Wiggan thought letting coach Keith Knoop know he couldn't remain on the bench was the answer. So, Knoop gave the dissatisfied dis·sat·is·fied adj. and earned the starting job, bringing in a team-high 13 sacks in seven
games last year.
But Wiggan's heart was still set on becoming a standout running back and competing with Kyle and other backs such as Canyon of Canyon Country's J.J. DiLuigi, Valencia's Shane Vereen and Hart's Delano Howell. ``I really wish I did have the chance to play in the Foothill League in my last year at Burroughs and really show the other backs,'' Wiggan said. ``Because none of them knew me last year, I wanted to open peoples' eyes in the Foothill League and send a threat out that I can be a great back. I'd be right there with the other backs.'' Instead, the Indians' leading rusher this season is taking on defenses considered to be softer than those in the Foothill League, but that doesn't stop Wiggan from displaying his powerful, yet quick running style. ``(Wiggan) doesn't like to be second,'' Knoop said. ``He's a determined competitor. He doesn't really say a lot and doesn't care what others say about him. ``People haven't heard about him. I think kids need to advertise themselves on the field and not have people talk about them. The younger Wiggan credits his toughness and discipline in part to his older brother. ``My brother was beating me up since I was a little kid,'' Wiggan said. ``That's why I had built up some strength, just fighting him all the time. I can't mess around during practice without a potential ball flying at my head.'' Wiggan is also quick to credit his offensive line. Armando Lopez, Justin McKnight, Garret Rowland, Bryan Arceo and Tony Galvez are the same line that Kyle ran behind last year. ``Our offense is a well-oiled machine,'' Wiggan said. ``Without a doubt, with them I can get where I want to be. This year is my year to shine, man.
