NO DUNCAN, NO PROBLEM FOR CLIPPERS SPURS STUMBLE WITHOUT SUSPENDED CENTER CLIPPERS 91, SAN ANTONIO 83.

Byline: Joe Stevens Staff Writer

Strange mishaps followed the Clippers throughout Monday night. Just before the national anthem, a member of the color guard dropped a rifle on the court. Luckily for bystanders, it didn't discharge.

Moments later, when rookie Chris Kaman Christopher Zane Kaman (born April 28 1982, in Grand Rapids, Michigan) is an American professional basketball player for the NBA's Los Angeles Clippers.

Kaman stands seven feet tall (213 cm) and weighs 265 pounds (120 kg).
entered the game, he donned a jersey that read ``KAMMAN'' across the back.

But unlike the Clippers' earlier troubled games, these mishaps weren't part of their play. The Clippers took advantage of a one-game suspension to Tim Duncan Timothy "Tim" Theodore Duncan (born April 25 1976 in Christiansted, St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands)[1] is an American professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). It was only the Clippers' third victory over the Spurs in their past 23 meetings. The Spurs' 83 points were the lowest an opponent scored against the Clippers by 10 points.

In the fourth quarter, the Clippers led the entire way but didn't put the Spurs away until 4:06 was left. Marko Jaric had a steal at halfcourt, and he dribbled in for a layup to put the Clippers ahead 74-62. For the rest of the game, the Clippers cruised until they got sloppy in the closing minutes.

Jaric had an ugly turnover, which led to a 3-point play by Malik Rose Malik Rose (born November 23 1974 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American National Basketball Association player with the New York Knicks.

to pull the Spurs to within six, at 85-79, with 1:08 left. But the Clippers clamped down and never found the Spurs closer than six points.

For San Antonio, Malik Rose had 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Rasho Nesterovic, starting in place of Duncan, added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Duncan was suspended by the league for one game after pushing referee Jack Nies in the third quarter of the Spurs' game Saturday at Golden State.

Spurs guards Parker and Ginobili combined to score 19 points on 6-of-27 shooting from the field.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Clippers led 62-51, after playing a small lineup for half of the quarter and frequently beating the Spurs on hustle plays.

At halftime, the Clippers led 46-32, after finishing the half with a flurry. Searching for any type of answer or success, coach Mike Dunleavy went with a lineup featuring just one big man - Kamman, er, Kaman.

Dunleavy found success with a lineup of Kaman, Eddie House, Bobby Simmons, Jaric and Maggette. That lineup was key to a 22-8 run to finish the half.

Having such a different lineup was the plan. Before the game, Dunleavy said he was seeking auditions.

``Here's the opportunity,'' he said. ``Show me. Right now, we're searching.''
