Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is a NASA research center located in the cities of Pasadena and La CaƱada Flintridge, near Los Angeles, California, USA.
 worker who fell asleep behind the wheel of a commuter van that plunged off a mountain highway in December, killing three Antelope Valley women, won't be charged with a crime.

The District Attorney's Office announced it found insufficient evidence insufficient evidence n. a finding (decision) by a trial judge or an appeals court that the prosecution in a criminal case or a plaintiff in a lawsuit has not proved the case because the attorney did not present enough convincing evidence.  to charge Lancaster resident Juan Javier Bautista, who was badly injured in the crash.

An investigation by the California Highway Patrol, released last week, determined that Bautista fell asleep at the wheel Dec. 8 while driving co-workers from the Antelope Valley to JPL (language) JPL - JAM Programming Language.  in La Canada Flintridge.

The 12-passenger van veered off Angeles Forest Highway The Angeles Forest Highway traverses the Angeles National Forest and connects the Los Angeles basin to the Antelope Valley by going up and over the San Gabriel Mountains. The highway is variously known as County Road N-3 or FH-59 or the Palmdale cutoff. It is about 25 miles long.  and plunged 240 feet into a ravine, according to CHP CHP Chapter

 Officer Vince Bell. Another motorist reported watching the van drift off a curve in the winding road without swerving or braking.

Killed were Dorothy Forks, 53, an employee in JPL's human resources department; Jane Galloway, 49, a manager in the business operations office; and Kerri Agey, 49, an administrator for Wackenhut Security, a JPL contractor.

The crash injured six other passengers, as well as Bautista.
