NJ ULI recognizes leadership.


The Northern New Jersey District Council of the Urban Land Institute recently bestowed its first annual Leadership in Land Use Awards at an event at the Zimmerli Museum in New Brunswick New Brunswick, province, Canada

More than 100 attendees, including development industry professionals, leaders from the world of academia and government officials were on hand for the event.

"This awards program recognizes leaders in both the public and private sectors who are at the forefront of planning a better future for the residents of New Jersey through excellence in real estate planning Estate Planning

The following were honored with this year's Leadership in Land Use Award:

Project of the Year: Borgata Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is a hotel, casino, and spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey owned by Marina District Development Corporation, LLC. The name means "little village" in Italian. The Borgata was built to bring high rollers back to Atlantic City. At a cost of $1.  Hotel Casino & Spa by the Atlantic City Atlantic City, city (1990 pop. 37,986), Atlantic co., SE N.J., an Atlantic resort and convention center; settled c.1790, inc. 1854. Situated on Absecon Island, a barrier island 10 mi (16.  Redevelopment Agency;

Educator of the Year: Darius Sollohub, of the New Jersey Institute of Technology;

Public Official of the Year: Adam Schneider, Mayor of Long Branch.

According to Schneider, "On behalf of the town of Long Branch, I'm honored to receive this award. Our renewal and redevelopment took patience and vision. It also could not have been accomplished without the use of eminent domain eminent domain, the right of a government to force the owner of private property sell it if it is needed for a public use. The right is based on the doctrine that a sovereign state has dominion over all lands and buildings within its borders, which has its origins in . Eminent domain is a hugely controversial issue in this country right now. However, it's a substantial issue that can't be discussed in sound bites and it is truly a shame when people are quick to oppose eminent domain without fully understanding it. We are proud of what we have accomplished already and look forward to continuing to redevelop Long Branch. I thank the Urban Land Institute for recognizing our successes."
