NIST DEVELOPS AN INFORMATION RETRIEVAL FRAMEWORK.NIST (National Institute of Standards & Technology, Washington, DC, www.nist.gov) The standards-defining agency of the U.S. government, formerly the National Bureau of Standards. It is one of three agencies that fall under the Technology Administration (www.technology. scientists have developed an Information Retrieval information retrieval Recovery of information, especially in a database stored in a computer. Two main approaches are matching words in the query against the database index (keyword searching) and traversing the database using hypertext or hypermedia links. Framework (IRF IRF Interferon Regulatory Factor IRF International Religious Freedom IRF Institut for Rationel Farmakoterapi (German) IRF Inherited Rights Filter (Novell) IRF Inherited Rights Filter ), which is a freely available, object-oriented framework for information retrieval (IR) applications. The framework is software that defines the architecture of a group of related applications and supplies many of the basic components from which they can be built, allowing application developers to extend the basic components to meet their special needs. It is coded entirely in Java and includes a very simple text IR application, support for file-based persistence (1) In a CRT, the time a phosphor dot remains illuminated after being energized. Long-persistence phosphors reduce flicker, but generate ghost-like images that linger on screen for a fraction of a second. , and two small text document collections. As is, IRF and the sample application are suitable for experimentation on small text collections, although the framework was designed with multimedia IR in mind. IRF was made publicly available on the web in July 2000. For more information on IRE and instructions for downloading the IRF package, see www-nlpir.nist.gov/projects/irf/irf.html. |
