NISSAN POSTS 15.5 PERCENT SALES INCREASE, FUELED BY NEW ALTIMA
CARSON, Calif., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Nissan Motor Corp. in U.S.A. today announced total vehicle sales of 51,822 for its Nissan Division, representing a 15.5 percent increase over October 1991 figures of 44,873.
Nissan's sales increase was led by the new Altima sedan, which continues to exceed company expectations, selling 7,756 units in October, its second full sales month, nearly doubling last month's 3,890 units.
The Quest, Nissan's new entry in the minivan category, also continued its strong showing, posting sales of 2,026 units in October 1992, a 49.2 percent increase over last month's figures of 1,358.
"We're selling Altimas and Quests as fast as we can make them," said Earl J. Hesterberg, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. "The dealerships have reported increased showroom traffic from consumers interested in these new models, which has heightened exposure and sales for the full Nissan product line."
Most notably, Nissan sedan sales as a group were up 18.7 percent in October 1992, led by the Sentra with 11,335 units vs. last year's figures of 11,042 units, and by the Maxima, with 8,216 units, a 4.3 percent increase over last year's 7,880 units.
Nissan truck sales also increased 28.5 percent in October 1992, to 19,430 units vs. last year's figures of 15,118.
In addition, domestic sales were up 69.9 percent to 31,804 units vs. last year's 18,721 units, reflecting Nissan's increased U.S. production.
Calendar year-to-date sales for the Nissan Division were 451,939 vs. last year's total of 467,420.
